General:

WJ was a farmer by trade and maintained his family in this manner even after he began to preach more often. He does not tell us enough details abo ut his early adulthood in the autobiography, but he moved with his father and had a farm adjoining his in Texas County in 1880.

WJ was a minister for the Christian church. He was ordained in 1868 at age 29. His obituary printed in the 'Houston Herald' on 10/7/1920, stated that WJ "preached more and received less materially than any preacher in the state."

William served in Guibor's Missouri Artillery C.S.A. during the Civil War.
