General:

AV enjoyed good health most of his life and kept in good condition by taking long walks even in his early eighties. He resented his stepmother a nd always was bitter his father for leaving his family alone and tending to church affairs at their expense. He early decided that if this w as religion, he wanted no part of it. His attitude was certainly understandable, but he let it make him too unhappy, in spite of this hard feelings he seemed to enjoy life by being one of those rare individuals who did what he wanted to do most of the time. This individual ruggedness a nd self-reliance was one of the most important personality traits of many of the early Americans who pioneered in the Kentucky and Missouri, and whose forefathers determined to leave Europe and start a new life in America in the the first place.

AV kept his family on a farm but he worked as a millwright most of his life. (A millwright assembled factory equipment on the construction si te of a plant.) AV later moved to McDonald, AR and owned a store in Malvern, Hot Spring County, AR. In later years, after retiring from the construction business, he operated a second hand store, living alone and enjoyi ng his own business dealings.

He had the habit of speaking "from down in his throat" as Bertha Prock described the way that most Frost men spoke. He had an excellent memory, and he was able to talk about the events of his early life with such clarity and detail that he would talk for hours. During the 1960's, he could recall the exact hour of his arrival in a city in 1907, or the full name of the person he met there, or the names of all of the people with whom he worked on a particular job location.
