General:

Herbert also lived most of his life in the Pacific Northwest. He was gass ed during the Battle of the Bulge in WWI and this damaged his body severel y. He suffered psychotic tendencies as a result of this disability and w as temporarily unable to work at times in his later life. He retired fr om the railroads as a brakeman and operated a service station in Portland.
