General:

When Porter's mother died, he lived with his sister Cansada/Kansada. He was about 2YO. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1915 and was discharged in the 1919/1920 timeframe. At that time he was either at Naval Proving Ground, Indian Head, MD or the base in Dahlgren, VA (they were tied together closely back then) At the time of his death they lived on base in Dahlgren, VA and afterwards his wife Sarah had to move off base into a different home. He was killed in an auto accident in King George, VA on 6/28/1931 (a family story is that the couple he was giving a ride to killed him).

Porter and Sarah are buried next to each other in a small cemetery in Owens, Va (this is right outside of the Dahlgren, VA limits) and right across the road from a home of The Harpers (the wife may have been related to Sarah) and they used to all visit there.
