General:

While Alice had no children of her own, she was the guardian for her niec e, Juanita Joyel Freeman, after Hattie died.

1910 census indicates that Alice had 2 children born to her but 0 were living.

Catherine Alice Yates married Hiram G. Brent in 1895 when she was 21. By 1900 she was widowed and had lost two children.
She helped with raising her niece Joyel Freeman after her youngest sister Hattie Yates Freeman died in childbirth. Alice later married George Stubbs.
Joyel's son Bob Hogan well remembers "Auntie Alice." He said his parents owning a 1926 or 1928 Chevy when he was small. The family had been on a trip and went over to Aunt Alice's house, where she urged them to come in. She said she "at least had corn flakes for the kids."
At the time Alice lived in east Little Rock in a trailer by herself. Bob's dad John Hogan would come and pick her up for Sunday dinner at their home. Bob said Aunt Alice wanted to use her money for snuff rather than pay the bus fare to get across town.
Bob said Aunt Alice cared a lot for him and his younger sister Betty. She lived with the Hogans during the depression. Bob remembers she bought milk by the quart because she wanted the children to have milk to drink.
Bob said he was 12 or 14 years old when Aunt Alice died. George Stubbs had died before Bob could remember.
