To his children, he was a loving and kind father, but a strict disciplinar ian when it came to regular attendance at school and church. Although he w as a circuit rider and served six or seven churches at the same time, a nd oftentimes was away from home, his childten knew he was the head of t he family. He insisted on good behavoir and promptness. Many times hisfamilywere t he only ones present at prayer meeting during the middle of the week. At s uch times, it was a family thing for him to say, "All right, Little Ruthi e, Play," refering to Ruth Geddie, his daughter, who was married to J.T. H atcher. Once, when an unusually heavy snow fell in a small town which Rev. Gedd ie served a minister, the local school teacher was seen plodding through t he snowdrifts on his way to school. A citizen asked him where he was goin g; surely, not to school on a day "like this. There won't be a soul there ." The school teacher didn't crack a smile when he said: "The Geddies wi ll be there." And, according to Ruth Geddie Hatcher, they were!
